| Borderlands 2. The game I grew up with, by Andrew Hetrick | ||
| Why/When it was made | References | The origin story |
Why it was continued after the first gameBecause of perfect success from the first game, they decided to make the 2nd game, and well, it came out to be better than the first game. The consumers of the game wanted to keep playing the game series because of the loot aspect and the variety of enemies you can eliminate. |
For references, I will speak about the references from movies and plays from the past. Starting with movies. The first reference we will speak about is King Kong, yes, there's a reference for King Kong. The King Kong reference resides in one of the last areas of the playthrough, the Eridium Blight. If you travel the area long enough, you will be able to find an enemy named, "King Mong," as the enemies in the game are named Bullymongs. The 2nd reference in the game is Silent Running, made in 1972, at the start of the game you follow a robot, and leads you to his home. In the home you find a poker table with robots sitting around it playing cards, referencing the robots Huey, Dewey, and Louie. The third reference for movies in the game is The Last Starfighter, a film from 1984. A shield you can aquire within the game is called, "Deadly Bloom," which shows the "Deadly Blossom" from the film. The fourth reference is from a movie called A Fistful of Dollars / Yojimbo. Within the game, a clan war happens between two rival gangs. The game mirrors these two movies together as the hero, the player, pits the gangs against each other. Thats it for the movie references. Moving on to the references from plays. The first reference is from Romeo and Juliet. The reference is on a weapon called Morningstar, and the description says, "A Rose by another name," which is a famous quote from the play. The 2nd reference is from the play Hamlet, which is shown in the game by enemies that have fallen and have a chance to say quotes from the play, such as, "O that this too too solid flesh would melt," and a few more I'm not gonna type. The third reference for plays is the play Pygmalion. The reference is on a weapon called the Bane, and has a description that says, "in Spain, stays mainly on the plain," which references how Eliza Doolittle pronunciate exercise. | yap |
| The game was made in 2012 by 2K | Videogames that are referencing within Borderlands 2 are Mario Kart, Dark Souls, Fallout, and Minecraft. The Mario Kart reference is a challenge done within Borderlands 2, as when you are driving a vehicle and while drifting for a long time, you will get the challenge completed. Second reference is Dark Souls. Within one of the maps, you can find someone sitting at a campfire called "Solitaire," which directly mentions the character named "Solaire" in the game. The third reference is Fallout. The reference for Fallout in Borderlands 2 is a gun named "Thre Dog," which mentions the broadcast host "Three Dog" in Fallout. The fourth reference I'm gonna speak about is Minecraft. The Minecraft reference is hidden within the map Caustic Caverns, where the reference for Dark Souls is as well, is behind a door at a mine where you can find dirt blocks and stone blocks, and to get into the area, you must melee them. Upon entering the zone, you can find creepers to kill and get rare stuff. And that's all I'm gonna explain for the Videogame references. |
